The doors of Bhaktapur

Ok, I’ve got a thing for doors. For me, every meander through Bhaktapur always includes an appreciative pause at all of the special doors.

In Nepal, complex shapes are carved into the brick or stone to match the rococo wooden carvings that are countersunk flush with the surface of the brick. In the west the wood would be used to cover over the unfinished brick edge. I can’t imagine the time and craftsmanship this takes and it’s universally done.
